This. is. awesome. Bar none.
Want to know why this is awesome? Gamer. Yes, the movie with Gerard Butler. See, I would like to experience technology in the way they presented it in the movie. Granted, I'd rather not be controlling another human being (that's be weird) but, I would like to be able to sit on my bed and have my room be my computer, my T.V. and my gaming console.
I'd never leave my room.
Can you imagine what that would to to the first person shooter (FPS)? It would be like you were actually there! I think it would make reaction times better, it would help with training in various fields and it would help cure the boredom of many a person all over the world. Studies have shown that people who work with a certain game extensively have a tendency to become show more cognitive and be more content overall. As shown in the "Mario math with millennials: The impact of playing the Nintendo DS on student achievement" study, children were more likely to have better attitudes towards their teachers and lessons after having played "Mario Math." Can you imagine that?
The "Video-game training and naïve reasoning about object motion" study showed that people were able to learn how to learn about trajectory with a video game. Granted, they needed a tutorial but everyone needs a tutorial. They don't just throw you into a game or a job without some sort of introduction, am I right?
And with better video gaming technology means better movie graphics, I'm just saying...

I was a day one adopter of the Kinect. The thing that fascinates me most about the technology is not its current applications but what the tech can be used for. Imagine in the future your house recognizes you and turns on lights and TV’s to you personal profile settings. What about waving you hand at a door in a public place rather than just walk in front of the motion sensor. Kinect started out as entertainment but I bet the technology gets implemented to a standard way to interact with electronics.

This is most definitely a giant leap in technology. According to Prof. Mahood, (if I recall correctly) that the Kinect can even pick up the movement of an animal. May not display the correct animal but its a start. I think that the Kinect can help inspire those who love to play Call of Duty: Black Ops but also want to serve our country with tiny tactics and etc. The Kinect can also help people stop being lazy and actually workout especially in the sports games. The Kinect would actually connect a lot of family members to gather in the living and compete in various videos while maintaining them being in some sort of shape. I wouldn't mind utilizing my football and basketball moves vs my roommates. BUT this could also contribute to more people becoming angry @ the video games because they don't possess certain skills. So it can become a conflict but ultimately its more of a positive then a negative.
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you about the Kinect, the Kinect is the most innovating product up to date due to its three cameras capturing a three-dimensional view of the player. The Kinect can perceive up to 12 points of the human body; the head, two hands, two shoulders, two elbows, one hip, two knees, and two feet.
ReplyDeleteNow... let me tell you about the competitor the Nintindo Wii. Although very original on gameplay can only sensor a max of two sensors, which surely give the edge to the Kinect.

I completely agree and think this is a huge step forward in technology for gaming and everything else. We are moving closer and closer to the integration of many major technologies. How long until humans are integrated into that via virtual reality? Things like the Kinect are the first step to becoming a virtual world. At some point will we not have real athletes anymore? Will it just become the best virtual reality players? These are questions that seem funny now but I think are important to ask as these types of technologies improve and get better. How long before human beings in general become obsolete and everything we do is virtual reality?

I agree that a real world simulation is the next big breakthrough in gaming and training. Turning my room into my computer and game console would make graphics a true 3D experience. Eventually, if this technology were to become a household technology, I think some common world attractions like theme parks, roller coaster rides, paintball or laser tag game rooms would become extinct and a way of the past. The best part about this new idea is that in a game, if you "die" you get to start over. I think the general public and gamers would be fascinated by the idea that they can really shoot a gun or drive a super sports car at top speed and not have any consequences because it’s just a game.

When the Kinect was introduced, i knew it would be something new innovative. It reminded me of what the future technology could be used for, as far as the way people interact with technology like in the movie Minority Report. It's potential to fully interact with the user to simulate real life movement within the game is unmatched. I can't wait to see what new technology is produced and improved from the Kinect.
